How to redact a screenshot

Drop or paste an image, then drag rectangles over anything private — names, faces, email addresses, account numbers, that one embarrassing browser tab. Black bar removes the region completely; pixelate obscures it while keeping the layout readable. Undo anything, then download the flattened PNG.

Why "no upload" matters here more than anywhere

Think about what this tool is for: images that contain something private. Uploading those to a redaction website is a contradiction in terms. This page has no server — the image is edited entirely inside your browser, and works offline if you save the page.

Honest limitations (please read this one)

• Black bars are the gold standard. The pixels underneath are genuinely gone from the exported file — the PNG is a flat re-render, not layers.
• Pixelation is weaker than it looks. Short known-format text (like a credit card number in a known font) can sometimes be reconstructed from pixelation. Use black bars for text secrets; keep pixelation for faces and general imagery. This tool deliberately offers no gaussian blur — blurred text is even easier to reverse.
• Check the whole image before sharing: reflections, window titles, taskbars, and notification popups leak more secrets than the part you remembered to cover.
• Screenshots rarely carry EXIF metadata, but photos do — for photos, run the result through Photo Cleaner too (exporting here already strips metadata as a side effect).
